France to host ‘Starless Dreams’

TEHRAN, Nov. 18 (MNA) – Mehrdad Oskouei’s award-winning and much admired ‘Starless Dreams’ has found a place in ‘World Children’ (Fennch: ENFANCES DANS LE MONDE) festival to be held in Paris.

Iranian director Mehrdad Oskouei's portrait of teenage inmates, Starless Dreams, will be present in the 7th edition of a documentary festival dubbed ‘Festival De Documentaires Enfances Dans Le Monde’. The event is slated to convene in the French capital of Paris from 17-18 November.

The French festival aims to screen documentaries that highlight situations of children across the globe. It is only devoted to documentary films which give way to better understanding of diversity, experiences and real problems of children around the world.

Starless Dreams narrates the lives of a group of young Iranian women who live together in a correctional and rehabilitation center for a variety of reasons ranging from drug dealing and trafficking, to pick-pocketing and manslaughter. Though bored with their incarcerated life, they are, nevertheless, scared about what might happen to them once outside. As the New Year approaches, they all hope to celebrate it with their families.

Starless Dreams won awards at the 34th Fajr Film festival and the 66th Berlin International film festival (Berlinale). Mehrdad Oskouei won the True Vision award at True/False film festival which is given to the best documentary filmmaker.
